Happy Father's Day...

To Roo.
And a belated Mother's Day to Smoak.
And all of the pet parents out there.
Or anyone else who got little bundles of "OMG I so do not need this" dropped on them over the weekend.

I've been trying to get Smoak to the Humane Society to be spayed, but could not catch her.  I was too late.

D-dog found four tiny furballs in the weeds behind the garage on Friday night.

I'm pretty sure one of the black ones is male and the other three are female.  And since they're half-and-half in the looks-like department, I'm guessing Roo is the daddy. That, and there was that incident a few months ago, that I thought Smoak was just trying to get Roo to play.  Yeah.  My bad on that one.

So, it's 930 pm and I'm tramping through the weeds extracting said furballs and making them a nice comfy home in the garage.  I constructed the "kitty jail" (crate) Roo had done time in while he was recovering, and put in a blanket and a basket with another blanket in it.  They passed out pretty quick.

It didn't take momma long to find them, since she went running when I went to get them. I couldn't see her in the weeds, otherwise I would have left them alone until she wandered off.  But, she knew I had them, and as wary of people as she is, she knew they were safe.  I was sitting in the garage with them, kind of freaking out about the fact that I have four more cats to take care of and aaaaaw-ing over them at the same time, and she came right on in, checked out the arrangement I set up and then laid down on the floor a couple feet from me so she could watch both of us.

I closed up the garage so no one escapes, and other creatures don't get in. Dorian isn't happy about it, since he just decided to come home this weekend, but other than that, it's working out so far.

Except they're old enough to think they need to explore everything.  Which means they get into everything.  And my garage is full of EVERYTHING.  So, I'm working on getting over my epic dislike for spiders fairly quickly.  I've had to initiate extraction maneuvers a couple of times already, because momma doesn't seem to be too interested in keeping them where they're supposed to be.

In fact, momma is kind of annoying me in that she doesn't seem to be too interested at all.  She'll come out and watch them every now and then, but I have not seen her spend any time with them.  I put her food dish in the crate with them, so that she had to go in there, and I saw her go in to eat once, and they all came running to nurse.  She finished her food and walked away.

Maybe she didn't think it was dinner time yet, or is trying to wean them already, or knew I was watching them... I don't know.  They've got to be eating at least a little bit, though, because they still have plenty of energy to get into predicaments.

I put down a saucer of kitten milk, and a couple of them figured it out, the other two weren't interested.  There's some soft food down now, I'm guessing momma will probably eat that, but they may figure it out, too.

I'm guessing they're maybe 4 weeks, possibly 5.  They've got teeth showing, but barely, and they're starting to play.  I saw one of them do a very wobbly "Invisible Tokyo".

Have to try to trap Smoak tonight, she has another attempt at her spay appointment tomorrow.  I'm thinking that since she's already trapped in the garage, it shouldn't be as difficult.  I hope. Otherwise, I may just have to try and extract her, too, because she HAS to go before she makes more bundles of drama.
